The parable of the wedding feast
(Matthew 22:
1-13)『And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, The
kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his
son, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding:
and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them
which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings
are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. But they made light of it, and went their
ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his
servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard
thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those
murderers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his servants, The wedding
is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the
highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants
went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found,
both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king
came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding
garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a
wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants,
Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness;
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 』
『The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which
made a marriage for his son, 』(22:2) The king is God. The
Son is Jesus Christ, and the marriage feast is the marriage feast of the Lamb
(Jesus Christ). The marriage feast of the Lamb means taking his bride. The
member of Christ means the church in Ephesians. The church is a saint and a
spirit. The spirits of those who sinned from God's kingdom and departed from
God's kingdom became human beings because the spirits were trapped in soil. But
God sends Christ into the world, takes the repentant as a bride, takes him back
to the kingdom of God, and holds the marriage feast.
At the end of the
day, Jesus comes to pick up the brides of Christ at the heavenly wedding feast.
The end of the world is the time when sinful spirits begin in Adam and enter
the final body. Those who enter the Lamb's wedding feast are one with Christ.
As a man leaves his parents and becomes one with his wife, he becomes one.
Therefore, Jesus prayed that the disciples would be one as they were one with
God and Jesus before the cross.
First, we must
understand why God chose Israel. It was for the salvation of all peoples
through Israel. Israel is a model of the world. God made a covenant with
Abraham and promised a blessing, which means that all people will be saved. God
tells all the world to see Israel. God gave Israel the law. God told Israel
that they would give God's righteousness if they kept the law well. Israel
failed in trying to keep the law. The purpose of God's giving the law to Israel
is to find Christ in the law, trying to keep it, and to realize that it is
impossible to keep. So the people of the world are to learn through Israel. It
is not to be like Israel, but to find Christ.
God sent an
invitation to Israel. The invitation is like the law. The law is to realize sin
and to know that you have left God. Thus, Galatians 3:24 says that the law is
like an elementary teacher who leads to Christ. The law is the invitation to
come to Christ, realizing that human beings are sinners.
This invitation was
sent to Israel first. The invitation is the law. Those who received the
invitation were the Israelites.
In chapter 21 Jesus told the Pharisees and scribes that the Gentiles would be
saved first. In chapter 22, Jesus used the parable of the wedding feast. But
Israel, who had been called, refused. The reason is that the Israelites do not
realize that they have left God.
The kingdom of God is
a place of complete rule by the Holy Spirit. But those who have left the
kingdom of God do not know the kingdom of God because they do not have the Holy
Spirit. Thus, the Israelites thought they could be righteous through the law.
They considered righteousness to be done on earth. That is to say, to build
their kingdom on earth. God tells the Israelites to return to the kingdom of
God, and they think the land is good. In order to return to the kingdom of God,
we had to take off our physical bodies and put on the bodies of the spirit,
whose eyes could not see the body of the spirit . Seeing in the flesh seemed to
be everything. The body of the spirit is the garment of righteousness. The body
of the spirit means to a body born of water and the Holy Spirit.
However, God
continued to send servants (prophets), but Israel killed many prophets. They
even killed the Son of God. God says in Isaiah 49: 6.『 And he said,
It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of
Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a
light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the
earth. 』 God expressed
Christ as my servant.
God sent the Law (invitation letter) to Israel,『 But they made light of it, and went
their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 』(22:5) The people of
Israel neglected Christ, hidden in the law, so that they could not know Christ.
『went their ways, one to his farm,
another to his merchandise』 They are masters themselves. The man himself is unaware of the dead
spirit in the body. Likewise they do not find the treasure (Christ) hidden in
the law. So Jesus said to his disciples, "Deny yourself." Being self
refers to evil (greedy) who left God because he wanted to be like God. Jesus
tells us to forsake it.
Luke's Gospel is
different. Because they bought a field, they bought five cattle (25 horses),
and because they bought a house, they cannot go to a feast. The appearance of
those who refuse an invitation may make sense in the eyes of this world, but
they tell us that this world is more important. There is no interest in Christ,
whom God speaks in the law. Not only did they not know that they had left God's
kingdom, but they did not care. They did not go to Christ because they had no
interest in Christ because they believed that they could be righteous by
keeping the law. They did not respond to the invitation.『
And the remnant took his
servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 』(22:6)
The Jews who caused Jesus to die on the cross were priestly priests and
scribes.『
But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies,
and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 』(22:7) Israel was
destroyed by Rome in A.D. 80.
The Bible explains why Israel was destroyed in Acts 13:46.
『Then Paul and Barnabas waxed
bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been
spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of
everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.』 The Bible is also explained in Acts (28:28).『 Be it known therefore unto
you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will
hear it. 』 The apostle Paul calls the mystery "the gospel first preached to
the Gentiles." The Bible is explained in Romans 11:25.『 For I would not, brethren,
that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own
conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of
the Gentiles be come in. 』
The invitation went
to the people of the world. ”Go ye therefore
into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. (22: 9)
The highways are the boundaries between Israel and the Gentiles. So Jesus said
to His disciples, "Receive and receive the Holy Spirit, and preach the
Gospel to the Gentiles."『 So those servants went out into the
highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good:
and the wedding was furnished with guests. 』(22:10)
Here the wicked and
the good are not so called in God's eyes, but are so called in the world.
Everyone in the world is evil or good. So people came to the wedding, and there
was a man who did not wear a dress. The king found the man and expelled him
from the feast.
Who is not dressed?
Rather than preparing for the robes, the robes were prepared at the wedding
feast, but they were not worn. The people who filled the wedding feast were
Gentiles. Those who decided to believe in Jesus Christ. But one of them was not
clothed with Christ. To dress with Christ, he had to take off his clothes and
change into Christ's clothes, but he did not. If you do not deny yourself, you
cannot wear the robes of righteousness. The Bible describes its clothes as
"old man." Those who did not die are those who reveal their
righteousness even though they say that they believe in Jesus Christ. They are
people who try to achieve righteousness by their own power. The robes are not
prepared by me, but are prepared at the wedding feast. You just have to take
off your clothes and wear the prepared robes. His clothes are the body of the
flesh, and the dress is the body of the spirit.
